Former chief secretary V. Karthikeyan passes away

Retired senior IAS officer and a former chief secretary of the government of Tamil Nadu, V Karthikeyan (90 years) passed away on Thursday, December 4. He was a resident of East Abhiramapuram.

He was the father-in-law of former union minister Jayanti Natarajan.

He joined the IAS in 1948 and had served in various departments and held varied posts for about 35 years; he retired in 1983. He was chief secretary of Tamil Nadu during 1976 – ’77 and also served as adviser to the Governor for a short time. He returned as chief secretary again in June 1977 and continued in the post till August 1981. He served under chief ministers M Karunanidhi and M. G Ramachandran.

He is survived by three sons, including Jayanti Natarajan’s husband, V. K. Natarajan, and two daughters.

The funeral was scheduled on Friday.
