Bharatanatyam guru Prof Sudharani Raghupathy, now 71 years old and a resident of Luz Church Road was decorated with an Award of Excellence by Mudhra, a performing arts promotion body based in T. Nagar. The event took place on Dec. 6 evening, at the launch of Mudhra’s art fest for December.
This internationally-known artiste who performed for many years and also taught dance at her academy has now chosen to retire though she provides ideas and guidance to her senior sishyas in their productions/recitals.
At Saturday’s event Sudharani said that though she had received awards for her dance and as a guru it felt good to be remembered even after those phases in her life.
Senior dancer and guru Dr Padma Subrahmaniam who was present felicitated her. The two are contemporaries.
