Rare kritis sung at musical event organised by Sanskrit College

At Sanskrit College - Kutcheri by V. Mohan

A musical evening ‘Samskrita Sangeetha Sandhya’ organised by the students of the The Sanskrit College, Mylapore was held at the college premises on Jan 18.

The chief guest, Dr. N. V. Deviprasad talked about the contribution of Sanskrit to music in his inaugural address. T. V. Ramanathan, president of the college trust, V. Srikanth, secretary of the college trust, Dr. N. V. Devi Prasad, principal, B. S. Srikanth, acharya/teacher of the courses, H. Subramanian, manager of the college office and other staff members were felicitated. Vidwan and alumni member Tanjore Srinivasan and R. Natraj, retired IPS officer were special invitees.

A lecture demonstration of ‘Rare kritis of Muthuswami Dikshitar’ by Dr. Uma Srinivasan followed the inaugural address. The event ended with vocal concerts by V. Mohan, disciple of guru Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran and V. Navaneet Krishnan, disciple of Padma Narayanaswamy. The audience were treated to some rare kritis in Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Manipravalam.
