Sri Swaminatha Indra Saraswathi Swamigal passed away on Jan 20. He was 81 years old.
Known as ‘Rayapuram Balu’, and ‘Balu Mama’ he served Mahaperiyava of Kanchi Math for more than 55 years.
In 2013, at the Triveni kumbamela at Allahabad, he was granted sanyasam by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, at the age of 78.
He was a constant companion of Mahaperiyava and accompanied him on his walking journey from ‘Kumari to Imayam’. After Periyava’s death in 1994, he took pleasure in sharing his experiences with Periyava with the visitors to the Math. He also penned these experiences in his books.
He resided with his brother at 40, Sankarapuram (Alamelumangapuram). His ‘samadhi’ has been created at Sri Kanchi Upanishad Brummendra Math.
