Men head to local temples to celebrate Avani Avittam

Several youngsters and seniors gathered at local temples today morning to celebrate Avani Avittam, a vedic ritual practised by Hindus.

At Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore, more than 300 men changed their holy thread and participated in the rituals and poojas there. The ceremony went on for three hours and the rituals were held in batches, says trustee R. Mukundan.

A homam, in connection with the upakarma, is expected to go on till after 1 p.m. today.
