Jyesthabhishekam for deity at Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple

On August 5, a special thirumanjanam was held for the deity here (both utsavar and moolavar) at Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore.

R. Mugunthan, the temple trustee says, “All through the year, the deity adorns a kavacham (armour). Once a year, the kavacham is removed and a special thirumanjanam is performed for the deity. For 40 days (Jyesthabhishekam period), till the second week of September, there will be no thirumanjanam or veedi purappadu for the deity”.

For Avani Avittam, which falls on Aug. 15 this year, he says devotees can come to the temple to change their poonal ( sacred thread ). “The pooja will be held in batches, starting from 6.30 a.m.”.
