Deepavali sales pick up; NGO donates new clothes, umbrellas to homeless

On Friday evening, the spirit of the Deepavali festival was seen all around Mylapore. Even as the night sky started lighting up with the burst of crackers, people hopped from one store to another to shop for the festival of lights.

From clothes and crackers to kitchenware and home utilities, people were seen buying them all. Said Ananya, a college student who bought beauty products at a store, “For me and my cousins, Deepavali is all about shopping.”

Elsewhere at a firecracker shop off R.K. Mutt Road, children were all smiles as their parents bought them their favourite crackers.

Even as the shopping continued here, the volunteers of Teynampet based NGO named ‘Chennai Volunteers’ donated sarees, dhotis and umbrellas to the homeless people around Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore.
