Young violinist’s wife commits suicide

The wife of a young violinist who resided in the heart of Mylapore committed suicide a day ago. Police say the couple, recently married seemed to have been affected by dwindling savings and the economic situation at home and this must have driven the woman to the edge.

Thirumarugal Ganesh Kumar is the violinist whose wife took the extreme step. The Thirumarugal brothers, violinists also played on stage together and as accompanying artistes.

A few bodies who support artistes have been active the past two months. One is the GCMA headed by top artistes; another is headed by vocalist-author T M Krishna’s foundation and a third by Lalitharam who focussed on support for tavil and nadaswaram artistes.

Says Murari V. V. S. joint secretary of GCMA., a senior violinist who is stuck in the USA while on a  tour, “From GCMA we collected Rs.30 lakhs and have distributed to many artistes and non artistes in various part is TN including deep down south. The suicide case is really sad. We will do what best we can further.”
