Archbishop leads few priests in symbolic protest inside Cathedral campus: demand for state support for converts

Archbishop Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy led a few brother priests in a symbolic gathering inside the campus of St Thomas Cathedral in San Thome this August 10 morning to mark the demand of the Catholic Church that people from the SC and ST communities who get converted to Christianity must be treated as such and not as people from FC ( forward caste).

This campaign by the church has been going on for some years now with the Church arguing that conversion by itself does not change the economic conditions of these people and that these ‘converts’ must be able to gain all the special benefits that they originally got from the state.

The archbishop spoke on the occasion and joined a few priests who were holding black flags in chanting some slogans, we learn from sources related to the church. This took place over 15/20 minutes.
