Avathara Utsavam celebrated at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple

The annual Avathara Utsavam on Chitrai Hastham was celebrated on Sunday (April 25) at the Vedantha Desikar Srinivasa Perumal temple with a Thirumanjanam in the morning for Srinivasa Perumal and Alarmel Mangai Thayar.

In the evening, Srinivasa Perumal went on a mangalagiri procession inside the temple complex. Under normal circumstances, the avathara utsavam would have seen Srinivasa Perumal in a grand street procession but with the current lockdown restrictions, the Lord went on an Ul Purapadu to the recital of Thirumangai Azhvaar’s Periya Thirumozhi verses.

On Monday evening, on the occasion of Chitrai Chitrai, the annual birthday of Vaishnavite Saint Poet Madurakavi Azhvaar will be celebrated with a procession inside the temple followed by Prabhandham recital and Satru Murai.

Earlier this month, the TN Government announced restrictions on street processions while on Saturday evening, new restrictions were announced keeping devotees away from the temple.

The temples are to conduct the daily rituals and utsavams with the help of the staff.
