Four Kaalam Pavitrotsavam starts at Sri Kapali Temple. Thirattu Paal presentation to Kapaleeswarar this evening

The annual four Kaalam Pavitrotsavam, referred to in Tamil as Perum Shanthi Vizha, began last evening with Kapaleeswarar making his way to the Yaaga Salai for the sacred poojas.

Head Priest E Venkatasubramanian said that in his praise of Kapaleeswarar, Saivite saint poet Thiru Gnana Sambandar asks  Poompavai  as to how she could die without a darshan of Kapaleeswarar during the sacred Pavitrotsavam. While he narrates all the utsavams at the temple, it was after his reference to the Pavitrotsavam that she came back to life.

The historical Pavitrotsavam is conducted once a year at the Kapaleeswarar Temple to cleanse the sins that may have occurred and any shortcomings to the Lord in the previous year.

 Thirattu Paal Presentation this evening

The Pavitrotsavam began with a Yaaga Salai pooja on Thursday evening and all the Lords were adorned with the sacred Pavitram.

On Friday morning, there was a Thirumanjanam performed for all the Utsavar deities. Later this evening, pavitram will be placed on all the Lords of the Sri Kapaleeswarar temple as well as on the well, the madapalli and the Rishabha Vahanam.

An interesting event that will take place this evening is the presentation of ‘Thirattu Paal’ to Kapaleeswarar as part of the Aadi Velli Pournami celebration.

The fourth and final kaalam pooja of the Pavitrotsavam will take place on Saturday during Uchchi Kaalam
