Sri Kesava Perumal Temple’s Andal aadi pooram utsavam is on

On the fifth day of the ten-day Aadi Pooram Utsavam at Sri Aadhi Kesava Perumal Temple,  Andal went on a procession inside the temple along with Mayuravalli Thayar (being a Friday) just after 6pm.

Around 15 Prabhandham members presented Thiru Mangai Azhvaar’s Siriya Thiru Madal.

Following the procession, Andal and Kesava Perumal exchanged garlands in front of the Garudan sannidhi. For close to an hour, 100 sacred verses of Nam Azhvaar were recited by the Prabhandham members with Kesava Perumal and Andal Providing Serthi Seva.

Meanwhile at the Mayuravalli Thayar, there was a big devotee crowd with their usual Friday prayers. Temple trustee NC Sridhar said that Vilva archanai on Friday is a special feature at this temple. “It has been a belief for long that those who perform Vilva archanai for 12 weeks will have their prarthanai fulfilled.”

He said this belief of the devotees is the reason for the large crowd at the Mayuravalli Thayar sannidhi every Friday.

Restricted Aadi Pooram Utsavam

Sridhar said that the Aadi Pooram utsavam is being celebrated within the temple given the restrictions on street processions.

“Every year, Andal goes on a street procession on a vahana on each of the 10 days. But this year we are celebrating with daily procession inside the temple without the vahanas.”

Aadi Pooram will be celebrated on Wednesday evening (Aug 11).
