Tamil Nadu’s governor R N Ravi will launch the annual December Season festival of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore this evening – Nov.26. Other guests on stage are M. Murali, N. Ravi, Mallika Srinivasan and V. Sriram.
A one hour nagaswaram concert starting 4.30pm sets the tone for this festival of music.
During the formal launch, the portrait of S. Anantharamakrishnan, who donated his premises to the Bhavan here, will be unveiled.
The evening’s main concert features Rajhesh Vaidya on veena and U Rajesh on the mandolin.
Bhavan’s head, K N Ramaswamy says leading artistes are featured in this fest, with two concerts daily ( 5 and 6.30 pm ) and one more on Sundays. The fest is on till December 15. Admission is open to all, but pandemic-time protocols must be followed.
BVB hosted live concerts last year in the open air at its campus in Kilpauk. That was a time when the pandemic was slowing down.
BVB is the first to launch the Season in the city and since top artistes are featured and admission is free, most events are packed. This year, the artistes include T M Krishna, Ramakrishnanmurthy, Ranjani-Gayatri, Prince Rama Varma and Nithyashree Mahadevan.
