Karthigai Deepam celebrated at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple

Karthigai Deepam was celebrated at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple on Thursday evening on the Full Moon day with the lighting of Sokkabaanam in front of the eastern Rajagopuram watched by hundreds of devotees.

On Friday morning, on the occasion of Karthigai star, there was an Abhisekam for Singaravelar. The day is also the annual birthday of Gana Pillai Nayanar, one of  the 63 Nayanmars.

E Venkatasubramanian Shivachariar told Mylapore Times that Mondays in Karthigai will be marked by Sanga Abhisekam.

Starting Monday (Nov 22), there will be a 108 Sanga Abhisekam on each of the four Mondays in Karthigai. On the fifth Monday, there will be a 1008 Sanga Abhisekam.

Volunteers set up and then lit thousands of earth oil lamps on all four sides of the temple tank, a formation that was a feast for the eyes that Friday night. Rain stopped this plan the previous day.
