The first of three rehearsals for the Republic Day parade to be held on the Kamaraj Salai off the Marina was held this Thursday morning.
Contingents of three wings of Indian Army, some wings of the state police among others, limited to about 15 odd groups went through the motions.
The groups of artistes will probably join on the last day of rehearsal as will the colourful theme tableaux, we were told by a state official on the spot. It is doubtful if school student groups which are part of the R-Day parade will find a place this year due to pandemic regulations.
Traffic on the San Thome Cathedral to Vivekananda Illam section of the main road is closed from 6 am to 10 am for rehearsals. Rehearsals on Jan.22 and 24.
