125 years of St. Anthony’s Girls Hr. Sec. School: state minister to take part at Friday’s event in San Thome

The twice-postponed celebration of 125 years of St. Anthony’s Girls Hr Sec School is to be held on Friday morning, Feb.25 at the indoor auditorium in the campus of San Thome Hr Sec. School.

There are two parts to this milestone event. First, 9 a.m. onwards, archbishop Rev. George Antonysamy will celebrate a special Holy Mass at the auditorium. Nuns of the Bon Secours congregation which manages St Anthony’s School and senior students of the school  will participate.

Then, 11 a.m. onwards the formal event will have state minister for education, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi as chief guest. Other guests are Rev. Mother Maria Philomi, head of the congregation, Peter Alphonse who heads the state minorities commission, Mylapore MLA Dha Velu and zonal officers of the state education department.

The milestone of 125 years was actually two years ago but could not be celebrated due to the pandemic’s two waves during this period.

Bon Secours’ first school was the St Lazarus Middle School, located off Madha Church Road and soon thereafter, St Anthony’s came into being.  The former celebrated its 125 years milestone before the pandemic set in.
