Meetings held at GCC schools on Sunday: to revive school management committees

On Sunday morning, there was some buzz in all the schools run by Chennai Corporation.

The state had directed all schools under its umbrella to hold meetings with teachers, parents of students or their guardians in order to revive the school management committee that must exist in every school to direct the school’s plans and efforts.

So, meetings were held in GCC schools across Mylapore – in Bheemanapet and Thiruvalluvarpet, in R A Puram and in V. P. Koil Street and in interior Mylapore.

In some schools, attendance was small, in some it was good.

At the Chennai  Middle School in Thiruvalluvarpet, about a dozen plus parents of the students attended the meeting ( photo above). At the Chennai High School on Sringeri Mutt Road, Mandaveli the teachers said close to 50 parents attended. ( photo below)

Said the headmaster of the Mandaveli school,  P. Paulraj, “We have been asked to revive the school management committee and this meeting was the first step. Soon, we need to elect members of the committee that will guide the school.”

The Ward 126 councillor, Amirthavarshini dropped in at the Mandaveli school and  spoke to the gathering of teachers and parents.
