Sri Kapali Temple: Grand alankaram of ‘Naalvar’ marks culmination of Panniru Thirumurai festival

Starting on the Pradosham evening, a 12 day Panniru Thirumurai festival was organised at the Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple. The festival saw celebration of the sacred verses of famous four Saivite saint poets.

Othuvar Sathgurunathan brought in Thirumurai scholars from across TN to present the sacred verses between 5pm and 7pm followed by a 90-minutes talk on the special features of these verses.

On Sunday evening, the four saint poets were decorated beautifully with colourful vastrams and garlands. Each alankaram was special and distinctive; Sundarar was king-like and was decorated him in a raja alankaram.

Thiru Gnana Sambandar was all songs from childhood and he was featured with a cymbal.  Appar dedicated his life to selfless service and hence he was seen with Uzhavaaram, and Maanikkavaachakar was god like.

Each of the saint poets had a crown atop them to mark the special occasion celebrating their greatness,” said Jayakanthan Shivachariar, hereditary priest.

With the cancellation of the procession, the big Sunday evening crowd spent time taking a close look at each of the alankarams while there were a few who spent the evening reciting the Thirumurai verses.
