A symbolic event was held at the statue of Gandhiji on the Marina square, Mylapore on October 2, to mark Gandhiji’s birth anniversary.
A few state ministers like Sekar Babu and Ma. Subramaniam with Mylapore MLA Dha Velu and others of the DMK party flagged off a cycle rally.
Many college teams, mostly NSS group members cycled a stretch to mark the occasion.
The statue is now barricaded on most sides and will soon be relocated to a spot off Vivekananfa Illam because of work on the Chennai Metro rail lines work. This zone will have the key Light House station, with the line running westwards to touch Porur and Poonamallee.
Most parts of the Marina’s lawns from near Kamaraj statue to the Namma Chennai installation. is now off limits and work is on.
