Fishermen based off Marina Loop Road have formally written to chief minister M. K. Stalin asking that zones in this area must be marked out for boat landing, fish clearing and transport and net cleaning and storage areas for all the fishermen in this area.
Their note to the chief minister, handed over to a few state ministers and to the Mylapore MLA on Sunday says that San Thome High Road be widened to carry the heavy vehicular movement and that no other activity be allowed in the fishers zone.
This move comes even as the Madras High Court is hearing a case on encroachments by fishers of the Marina Loop Road.
GCC officers promised the court that it would ensure that fish hawkers did not use the road for their purposes and that vehicle movement will not be disturbed.
