Rs.2,000 currency exchange: no rush at local area banks

There is no great rush to exchange Rs.2,000 currency notes at local bank branches in Mylapore.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Monday reiterated that ₹2000 notes will continue to be a legal lender, after the central bank’s announcement that the notes will be withdrawn from circulation.

He also said he doesn’t expect a rush in the branches and urged people to not rush to banks.

There is time till Sept.30 to exchange the notes at any bank and the process has been simplified too.

On Wednesday, at State Bank of India branch near Amrutanjan on Luz Church Road, one counter was demarcated for this exchange but not many people were at the counter at noontime.

The same was the case at Indian Bank’s branch on North Mada Street where there is no special counter for the exchange purpose.
