Children with special needs play football, run races and take part in drills. Ekadaksha hosts sports meet

Ekadaksha Learning Center ( a place for skilling children with special needs) based in Jeth Nagar, R A Puram, conducted its first sports day on January  25 at Whistle Urban Hub, Nungambakkam.

This event was supported by ‘The KSN Sports Foundation’. The chief guest was Mohammed Riaz, former captain of the Indian hockey team which won silver medal and gold medals at the Asian Games 1994 and 1998 and India player in the 1996 and 2000 summer Olympics.

The children performed entertaining drill exercises using pom-poms.

Track and field events were conducted – running races, bean bag transfer race, sack race, ball and shot-put and javelin throw and two relay races. Each of these races were modified to suit the needs and capabilities of the children.

Days before this event, the children and teachers were allotted four Houses and games like football and throw-ball were held on campus.

Each sport was modified and rules made simple to enable the children play as independently as they could.

Present at the meet was trustee, Hiten Joshi, the Ekadaksha founder-directors Bharathi Balarajan, Kanaka Shyamsunder, Archana Joshi and Bindu Haridas, teachers and staff of ELC and the parents of children.
