Proprietors of Rayar’s Mess decorated with ‘Spirit of Mylapore’ award for 2024

The proprietors of the well-known Rayar’s Mess were decorated with the ‘Spirit of Mylapore’ award  by Sundaram Finance at an event held at the corporate’s office in the city on Tuesday, February 6.

This award recognises a person or institution based in Mylapore which has contributed much and made a big impact locally and beyond.

Two members of the Raya’s Mess family- P. Mohan and K. Manoj – received the award from Rajiv Lochan, MD of Sundaram Finance.

The award carries a citation and a cash component.

Earlier, writer-historian V. Sriram spoke on Mylapore – its uniqueness and on the people and institutions that have made the area in the city very special.

Rayar’s Mess, now based off Arundel Street, that leads from Kutchery Road is now managed by the fourth generation of the man who founded it, first in a colony that now lies opposite the Mylapore Police station.

The award is usually given on the final day of the annual Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival ( the 2024 edition was held Jan.4 to 7) but since the rain washed out the final evening’s events, the award event was held on Tuesday.
