Navaratri events, religious and cultural. Here is the check list for Mylapore

At Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore

Navarathri programmes will be held from October 3 to October 12.

While the goddess will have distinct alankarams to reflect the celebrations of each day, volunteers are expected to create thematic decorations inside the temple, like they did last year.

Each day the festivities will start by 5 am and will go on till 9pm.  On Oct 3, the goddess will be on Anna Vahanam; on Oct 4, the goddess  will be Kamadhenu vahanam; on Oct 5, Karpagambal will have Saraswathi alankaram; on Oct 6, she will be on Naga vahanam; on Oct 7, she will be on rishaba vahanam; on Oct 8, she will have Rajarajeshwari Alankaram;

On Oct 9 she will be on Kudurai Vahanam; on Oct 10 the goddess will take the form of  Mahishasuramarthini; on Oct 11 there will be Kamatchi sivapujai alankaram, Yethasthanam ezhuntharural  and on Oct 12 there will be Chandrasekarswamy kuthirai vahanam Parvetai thiruvidi vizha.

At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore

Saroja Parasaran Memorial Endowment Navaratri Music festival will be held from Oct 3 to 13.  The festival features vocal, instrumental and dance drama.

Two programmes are scheduled every day (at 5 pm & at 6.30pm). The concerts are to be held in the Bhavan’s main auditorium on East Mada Street, Mylapore and is open to all.

The serene tradition of the Navarathri Suprabhata Sangeetha Seva continues, where the entire space is bathed in the soft glow of oil-lit kuthuvilakkus.  Rasikas can listen to soul stirring music from 5.30am onwards amid the divine lights.

The performing artists include Vasanthi Ramesh, Rajashri Ramakrishna, K Gayatri, Sumathi Krishnan, G Ravikiran, Nisha Rajagopalan, Aishwarya Shankar, Vivek Sadasivam, G Baby Sreeram, Palakkad K L Sreeram and Mambalam sisters – Vijayalakshmi and Chitra.

At Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, P S Sivaswami Salai, Mylapore

Navaratri Utsav will be on from Oct 3 to Oct 12.   Every morning from 7.30 to 9, there will be discourses. Sriman Akkarakani U Ve Srinidhi Swamigal will deliver the discourse on the topic Divya Desa Magimai from Oct 3 to Oct 8 on ‘Divya Desa Magimai’.  P Swaminathan will deliver the discourse on Ramakrishna’s greatness on Oct 9, on Annai Sarada Devi on Oct 10 and on Guruvarul on Oct 12.

There will be music concerts from 6.30 to 8 in the evenings. The performing artists include Dr Ghatam Karthick, Dr O S Arun, Sikkil Gurucharan, Nanditha Kannan, Savitha Sreeram, Vasudha Ravi, among others.

There will be a maha abhishekam to Devi Saraswathi on October 11 followed by Saraswathi Puja and Sri Lalitha Sahasranama Parayanam and Archana. There will be a display of dolls by the boys of the Home on all 9 days of Navaratri. The idol of Sri Gadadhar will be taken on a procession around CIT Colony, Mylapore on all nine days – both in the morning and in the evening.

At Raga Sudha Hall, Luz

Bahudari is conducting the Navaratri Series. There will be two programmes – one at 4.30pm and another at 6.15pm on Oct 6 and 7. The performing artistes include Bhavya Hari, Shraddha Ravindran, Tanjore Balakrishnan, Vaidya Rajasekhar, Sai Subramaniam, Melakaveri Balaji, Dr Varalakshmi Anandkumar, among others.
