The alumni of the 1976 batch of San Thome High School had what they called family meet as a prelude to the golden jubilee celebrations of their batch, planned for next year.
Called – the San Thomeans’ 76 Family meet – 2025, the event was held at Gandhi Nagar Club, Adyar on April 22.
“Out of a class of 61, 42 ‘old boys’ had come. As many as 15 came with their spouses. It was nice to see them dressed up as per the colour codes given. While women were asked to wear sky-blue colour sarees or chudidhar, men were given specially-designed T-shirts,” said Raman, one of the organizers.
The event had a scheduled flow – it started with singing the Tamizh Thai vazhthu, followed by a minute of silence for the departed teachers and students, a felicitation ceremony, games and good food.
Four ‘old’ teachers – V Jayaraman, A Ondiveeran, K T Thomas, M L Rathinaswamy – were honoured with a shawl, memento and gifts.
Three of them spoke on the school and of the old days.
This is the first batch of alumni of this school to host such an event.
