At Tholkappiya Poonga, work is still going on. Holiday crowd loses out

The hugely-renovated Tholkappiya Poonga is still not open to the public though a state minister in charge of this project had said that all work would be over now.

Though the Poonga’s online facility which allows for booking for admission here is ‘alive’, the watchmen at the main gate say that the nature reserve has not re-opened. Hence, the summer holiday crowd has lost out on exploring the Poonga.

Meanwhile, the sky walkway work at the South Canal Bank Road – D G S Dinakaran junction is going on. This will allow people to access to both wings of the Poonga.

Also, beyond a closed gate of the reserve on South Canal Bank Road, is seen a new structure which seems to be a bird watching tower – it is located on the edge of a vast water body which is the hub for birds year round.

The main entry has been made grand with huge arches and illumination. A cafe has been set up in this zone.
