Main and old church in Abiramapuram closed. But people drop in to pray

Our Lady of Visitation Church in Abiramapuram has been ‘temporarily closed’ as per an order from  archbishop Rev. George Antonysamy following a court oder concerning the church. Even the original church ( seen in the first photo) , a heritage space and a small one, which is located on this campus has been locked. ( Legend goes that this was a space used by saint Thomas to rest and preach, when he travelled between San Thome and Little Mount).

People who attend this church now do not have a place to pray. The archbishop has advised people to attend Masses at other churches, closeby.

But some people continue to drop into this church campus on St Mary’s Road and pray outside a statue of Mother Mary.

The office of the parish priest is locked; the priest is not available and a few policemen are posted at the church gate.
