A well grown monkey was spotted walking this Tuesday morning on the parapet / boundary walls of many houses on Dr Ranga Lane, off Dr. Ranga Road.
Not many householders noticed the monkey, so it took its own sweet time to hop from one house to another.
It jumped down after a while and disappeared into the trees in the locality.
The presence of monkeys in Mylapore zone has not been reported in recent times.
But many years ago, a whole group of them used to raid houses in Abiramapuram / Alwarpet, visiting this area often. Some even popped into the kitchens of apartments whose doors were open and made off with food or bottles.
The Forest Department staff had to be called in and they trapped a few monkeys and took them away.

Mandavelipakkam residents have spotted the odd monkey hop from house to house some months ago. ( second photo)
Resdent Fabiola Jacob said that monkeys do come by once in a while. But she says she has not spotted any of them in or around the Tholkappia Poonga that is close to this zone.
