Queen Mary’s College gets new hostel

Queen Mary’s College now has a new hostel on its campus.

Chief minister M. K. Stalin opened it on May 21,  He had promised this facility when he was the chief guest at the college’s 104th convocation.

Built at a cost of Rs.42 crores, it can accommodate about 450 students, in triple-sharing rooms. Each room is fitted with basic needs.  CCTV system, water dispensers and a medical aid counter are part of the facility.

Though the college had a hostel on campus, its condition deteriorated and it was closed; some girls were accommodated in the girls hostel of Presidency College in Chepauk. Many girls managed with PG accommodation in Mylapore / Triplicane.

QMC faculty said that since many students are from rural areas, the new hostel will be a big boon for them.
