GCC’s effort to rid an entire pathway in Mandaveli of encroachers who ran a bricks-breaking business operation have come to nought.
The area – the pavement alongside the bridge over the Canal near Mandavli MRTS station.
The past weeks, dealers of this business, where people are employed to break bricks and this sold from here have dumped cart loads of broken bricks in the place that was cleared up.
Last month, GCC team had cleared the area of the bricks and accessories. But inside two days, unknown people dumped a set of bricks in an attempt to reclaim space.
Resident Vignesh who shared a photo and details says that operations are on now.

It’s concerning to see encroachers defying the region’s efforts to maintain order and fairness in urban spaces. While the GCC’s urban planning and infrastructure reforms aim to ensure a safe, sustainable environment for all, incidents like the Mandaveli pavement encroachment highlight the ongoing challenges in enforcing regulations. Local authorities must reinforce their actions to protect public spaces and prevent illegal occupation. Urban developments should always prioritize public accessibility, fostering a community-driven approach to growth.
