A shade after the Aadi season got over, this Sunday ( August 17) was a date for the annual ‘thee midhi’ or fire walking act of the community which was held outside Sri Nagathamman Temple on Sri Mundagakanni Amman Temple, Mylapore.
A bed of burning coals was prepared and all those who wished to walk across this bed, some 15 ft long, were asked to form a queue and took turns to walk on it – saying they did this to fulfil vows.
There were teen girls, young and married women and women who also carried babes in their arms.
Men also walked on the burning coals.
