Jeth Nagar residents are bugged with the acts of a ‘part time’ resident on Pattammal Street who has encouraged stray dogs who pose some harm to people using this street.
Residents say that a series of actions taken by GCC, the civic body and Animal Welfare Board have not ended with better results.
The resident accused of contributing to a civic problem had started feeding stray dogs months ago. Once, GCC officials took the dogs away, neutered them and brought them back to the street. The ‘dog lover’ started fostering the dogs inside his house.
A few of them died; residents say that their bodies were left to rot inside the plot. GCC staff removed the bodies and disinfected the place after residents complained.
A team of GCG officials and Animal Welfare Board staff visited the residence and spoke to the dog-lover.
GCC pasted a notice on his gate, saying that he would be fined if his actions affected the community.
Ravi Nandyala, a community activist of Jeth Nagar says that the dog-lover vacated the house and kept it locked along with the dogs in the compound.
Now, the dog lover has appointed a guard who lets out the dogs as strays on the street. He feeds them on a regular basis and keep a watch over them,
Ravi says while the community does not mind a person caring for strays, they pose a danger to passersby since they chase people off and on.
He says that the GCC‘s claim of neutering the dogs is also suspect because 10 pups have been delivered in recent weeks; some of them were crushed under the wheels of cars / vans.
