There are mini pockets of Keralites in the Mylapore zone.
Searching for them to shoot some pictures of Inam celebrations, we located some families in the gated community of Ragamalika Apartments in Mandaveli.
Kalyani Muralidharan, who is at the centre of all local activity, pointed to families who were celebrating Onam.

We dropped into the apartments at Ragamalika in Mandaveli – the flats of of Sumati ( photo No.1) Indira ( photo No.2) and Priya ( photo No.3) and of Raji ( phone No.4) ; all of them had designed lovely poo-kalams to greet guests.

Kalyani later said that a group of them in one block of this campus had ordered five seta of Onam Sadhya from Sangeetha restaurant in R. A. Puram and ten people sat for this festival lunch. ( last photo on this page)

Elsewhere, Jaya Doss in Mandavelipakkam had a small, neat pookalam to greet guests at her house and she was dressed in the famed Kasavu saree for this occasion. ( photo below)

In R. A. Puram, Sunil Subramaniam’s family celebrated Onam the way it should be and then sat for the sadhya served on plantain leaves.

On Sunday, the Ragamalika Apartments community of 35 senior citizens and others had their own celebration; some music, some dance and some Kerala snacks at tea time.
