Workers have been clearing the cemetery campus on St. Mary’s which Road, Mandaveli of weeds and shrubs to prepare the place for All Souls Day which falls on November 2. This work was initiated by Chennai Corporation.
On this day, Christians remember those who have passed away and pray at their graves. This cemetery, meant for Christians, is managed by Chennai Corporation.
The parish priest of Our Lady of Guidance Church in R. A. Puram said he had met the city mayor along with the Ward126 councillor, Amirtha Varshini and requested for the cleaning of the cemetery.
He said that the church proposal for taking over the maintenance of this cemetery is still pending with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). For many years, this church had managed the cemetery, its maintenance and burials till GCC decided it would handle this job.
