Bengaluru-based NGO, Saahas, has been working in the San Thome – east Mylapore zone on educating people to segregate, reuse and recycle waste.
It is currently focussed on motivating people to repair stuff – like bags, footwear, small household items, so that this attitude lessens pressure on waste dumps.
The NGO is hosting a day-long event called “Repair Pannalama?” on Oct 25 at the auditorium of St. Antony’s Girls Higher Secondary School Madha Church Road in Mandavelipakkam. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event has the following attractions:
< Repair Arena – repair vendors for footwear, bags, umbrellas, clothes alterations, zip fixing, small appliances’ repair and knife sharpening. People may bring broken things from their homes and give them a new life. A basic charge will be levied for the service.
< Free workshops on sustainable living like home composting and cloth upcycling are to be held through the day.
< A Kids Arena offers games on sustainable living. < Sustainable Gifting zone will showcase vendors that sell earth friendly products like preloved clothes, chemical free personal care products, up-cycled decorations and many more.
