Joshua Clement Moses, longtime San Thome resident passed away on Nov.15. He was 86 years old.
Born on November 7, 1939 in Sattur near Madurai, Moses began his career as a chemist before founding Metal Brites in Chennai, where he pioneered aluminum color anodizing and contributed to projects such as the Isphani Centre and the erstwhile Madras airport.
He studied at St. Peter’s in Thanjavur, St. Xavier’s in Palayamkottai, and completed his MSc course in chemistry at American College, Madurai.
Moses married Brindah Doris Moses in 1966, had three daughters and made their home in San Thome for nearly four decades. He took great care of his mother, Leela Joshua Moses until her passing at the age of 103 years in San Thome.
For many in the city’s Christian community, Moses is warmly remembered for his longstanding involvement with the IMS Chennai Mission. He played a key role in several fundraising initiatives to support mission schools, hostels and health centres across rural India.
At St. Thomas English Church in San Thome, he helped conceptualise a school for underprivileged children and assisted in establishing a prayer altar on the church premises.
Known for his love of books, music and classic Western films, Moses was regarded as a thoughtful storyteller, said Christina Karen Wilson, his third daughter who wrote this tribute.
He is survived by his wife Brindah Doris Moses and children Jemima Ravithilagan, Priya Pearlin
