Super senior alumni of P. S. High School honoured. Some 100 people took part in this unique meet

P. S. Higher Secondary School organised a very special event on a Sunday morning ( Nov.2). The event was to honour all its alumni who were 80 years old and plus.

This was a brainwave of an idea fleshed out by the management; going by the response on that sunny morning, the rains having taken a break, this rare meet was enjoyed and appreciated by all present at this famed Mylapore campus.

Some 100 people turned up for the event; some of them with their life-partners, some had their children alongside and some had helpers with them.

They came from Adam Street and Adyar, from Velachery and from Royapettah, to keep this date and as each one of them walked in, the reception desk, manned by school teachers and some senior P. S. students acknowledged them, and helped them to settle down to a hearty breakfast – idlis, pongal, vadas and coffee/tea.

Swaminathan, an alumni of the 1939 batch, who is 101 years old, got all the attention he deserved. He later took the mike to share his campus memories.

Breakfast was served – pongee and idlis and vadas, coffee and tea.

A priest did pujas at the small shrines in the far end and prayed – for the occasion.

The school band performed in the quadrangle as the guests stood around an d later adjourned to the formal event which was held in what is known as Prayer Hall.

“Actually, in this hall, the school would screen educational documentary films and we all had to gather here and watch them,” recalled A. Sivaraman who has lived on Adam Street all his life.

The hall, wearing a smart look holds up the histories of the peole who led the school; portraits of the trustees and management members adorn the walls here.

The current Headmistress of the school, Dr. R. Kala and school secretary C. V. Krishnan spoke

Gift bags were personally given to each alumni present.

The hall resounded to the chatter of the guests – some recalling the old days, some sharing there life stories, some meeting alumni of the 1960s and 70s who had dropped in to soak in the event.

“We wanted to honour our Super Senior alumni”, said C. V. Krishnan. “We are happy at how this event has turned out to be. All this made possible by Him up above.”
