Team of Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior Sec. School wins accolade at UN meet in Geneva

A team of students of Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior Secondary School, Mylapore represented India at the 9th Annual 1M1B Impact  Summit, held at the United Nations office (Palais des Nations) in Geneva, Switzerland on November 7.
The team has won the prestigious “The Voice of the Planet award”, presented at this summit, for its best outreach and the advocacy the school team presented.
This was the only school team from Tamil Nadu, and one of only seven schools from across India selected to participate in this prestigious global forum.
The five-member delegation presented their research on the theme “Agriculture, Soil, & Food Systems” as part of the Youth Climate Diplomacy Program of 1M1B (One Million for One Billion).
M. S. Jayasri, principal,  Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Snr. Sec. School, said: “ Over the past 6 years, we have specifically involved ourselves in sustainable development projects. We are delighted to be associated with United Nations accredited 1M1B for the past four years.”
Manav Subodh, founder and chief mentor, 1M1B, added: “We are proud to see schools like Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya  championing climate action through youth leadership. These students represent the new face of India.”
The school’s delegation is led by  Lakshmigayathri Ravindran. The students include R. Sibi Agilan,  K. Ananthan, N. Manikandan and V. Harshitha Vinoth
 1M1B, a United Nations–accredited non-profit organization with special consultativestatus with the UN ECOSOC, focuses on building future-ready youth through programmes centered on entrepreneurship, future skills, and sustainability.  Over the past eight years, 1M1B has been showcasing Indian youth changemakers at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
 Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya Senior Secondary School, Affiliated to CBSE, is a co-educational institution, run by the National Boys’ and Girls’ Education Society (NBGES), offering classes from pre-K.G. to XII.
