The lakna patrikai event of the annual Panguni festival of Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore is a very significant event and it draws a small number of people; these are people who are at the temple almost every day. So it was when the ritual for this year was held at this temple on February 26 evening.
That evening, the mantapam near the image of the genial Nandi, was where the action was. The elaborate abhishekam which ran for over 90 minutes. For the gods. Using milk and sandal paste, fruits and water and more, watched closely by the women who were the majority here.

The sight was resplendent when the sandal dripped down the images and droplets flew into the air.
Ten priests conducted the rituals.
After this was done, the gods moved to the sanctum where the patrikai was read. A gentle invitation to the gods for the temple’s brahmotsavam, detailing all the events and the dates on which these would be held. One would call this similar to a ritual at a pre-wedding event.
The brahmotsavam is scheduled to start on March 23 but the official schedule from the temple has not yet been made public.
