India Post now assures people that letters or covers booked by Speed Post will be delivered in 24 hours to major cities. “And if that is not done we will refund the money.” adds a India Post staff at Mylapore Post office.
The latest service, on trial for some weeks, is now in full flow.
At the special counter at the Mylapore PO, open from 8 am to 4 pm, the 24 hour service offered is for cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata, besides areas in Chennai and around.
There is also SpeedPost 48 hrs – a service that guarantees deliver under 48 hrs in many cities.
And, the standard Speedpost service also exists.
But each service commands its charge, the 24 hrs one being costlier than the rest. For example, a simple cover booked to Mumbai by ordinary Sped Post costs Rs.44, while the same cover, booked by Speed Post 24 hrs can cost about Rs.94.
Parcels can also be sent by Speed Post.
