Private temple on busy North Mada Street encroaches on public space

A roadside shrine is getting bigger and bigger on North Mada Street. And pedestrians say that this is affecting flow of traffic and encroaching on public space.

This shrine just outside Sri Vidya Kum Kum shop at the junction of North Mada Street and Sengazhaneer Pillaiyar Street.

Old timers say that there was a small neem tree at this spot. Then, its trunk was smeared with kum kum, a lamp wa sp;aced on the floor and flowers graced the space.

Later, a bright pavadai adorned a large image of a goddess. Still later, a small ‘kutcha’ roof appeared on top of it.

Pujas began to be done here and prasadam is offered now daily.
