A huge cut-out and flex banner has been erected right at the corner of the junction. It features chief minister Vijay Joseph in his avatar in the recently released film ‘ Jananayagan’.
It has been erected by a local fan of the actor.
Residents says this massive structure and cut-out blocks the view of motorists exiting M. S. Viswanathan Salai from Dooming Kuppam, making it difficult to observe vehicles approaching from the right on San Thome High Road. This significantly increases the likelihood of accidents, they said.
The banner is also located beside an electrical transformer, raising additional public safety concerns.
Apart from obstructing visibility, it distracts motorists, occupies public space and may become hazardous during strong winds or heavy rain, said resident Vanitha V.
Vanitha e-mailed Mylapore Times to say that ‘ the chief minister has stressed that public safety should not be compromised by hazardous roadside banners. Yet, such unsafe installations continue to appear at important road intersections.’
