Nageswara Rao Park: GCC steps in to lay pathways for walking. No word on fate of original project

Work on reconstruction at Nageswara Rao Park in Luz has re-started. It appears that this work is being undertaken by Chennai Corporation – for there is no sign here of workers of the contractor who undertook the job and was at it for close to a year before he quit.

Paver blocks, sand and cement was unloaded and stacked in one area of the park.

GCC sources say that their first focus is to lay a complete pathway for walking in the park.

It is not clear if this is a stop-gap job undertaken to address the protests and online campaign some people have undertaken on the state of this park.

The park is in a big mess; all the plants and shrubs were shaved off completely by the GCC’s contractor.  Fresh planting and caring will call for a big budget and sustained work.

GCC officials of the area are mum on these issues.
