Sexual and reproductive health and rights: theme of play staged at Queen Mary’s College. NGO’s state-wide campaign

The Centre for Women’s Development and Research (CWDR), a NGO organised a street play this weekend at Queen Mary’s College Hostel, Mylapore as part of its ongoing campaign themed “Puthuyugam Padaipom.”

College students sat in the open yard aroiund the hostel in the QMC campus to watch the play which touches on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), menstrual dignity, gender equality, and prevention of gender-based violence.

Through street theatre, songs and dance, the performance addressed issues that directly affect the lives of adolescent girls and young women.

Students were encouraged to ask questions and debate on the issues raised in the play.

The street play was created and directed by senior theatreperson  Pralayan of Chennai Kalai Kuzhu as part of CWDR’s  SRHR awareness campaign.

The campaign is being taken to colleges, communities and public spaces across Tamil Nadu.
