People who visit temples now cannot take their cellphones inside. This is a recent regulation issued by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department of the state and it applies to all major temples in the state for now.
This is to ensure that people in temples can focus on the rituals and have a seamless darshan and not be irritated by people either talking or watching videos on their phones.
This is applicable now to Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple.
A booth located alongside the east wall of the temple, south of the gopuram has been created for this purpose. You need to deposit the cellphone here; a fee of Rs.5 is charged.
