Many people who visit Sri Kapali Temple are not happy with the ban on carrying phones inside – an order issued by the state government recently.
They say the queues will be long and time is wasted standing in the queue. Some also have to stand in a queue to deposit footwear.
They say managing this issue on days like the celebration of pradosham and of festivals during the year will be very tough; thousands are at the temple and two counters will not be able to handle all of them.
They say seniors need the phone on them to handle emergency calls. Many seniors also use the phones to recite prayers stored in the phone.
They suggest that stiff action can be taken by temple staff against those who talk loudly or shoot videos / Reels inside the temple
They also question why Rs.5 is charged for phone deposit. Daily temple-goers will have to pay over Rs.100 a month
Some people are unhappy with the blocking of a section of Ponnambala Vadyar Street on the south side ( created for people to join queues to deposit phones / footwear). They say access to the temple is now squeezed.
