The community at St Thomas Cathedral in San Thome felicitated Fr. A. Anthony Swamy after the evening Holy mass at an informal event held at the open-air space in the rear end of the campus on October 25 evening.
The Catholic priest celebrated his 52nd ordination day – the day he became a priest.
Though he is retired, Fr Anthony Swamy, at 87, continues to serve at the Cathedral and keeps himself busy visiting homes and being at prayer meets.
“I am the only only of the four diocesan priests born in 1940 alive,” the priest told his well-wishers on Monday.
Simple, no-nonsense, prayerful and friendly, he has endeared himself well at all parishes in the city he has served including churches in Guindy and in R. A. Puram.
