Chennai Metro had erected a long handrail to enable the pedestrians to cross from Penguin Xreox shop side on Kutchery Road to Luz and towards the MRTS station . This handrail was also intended to keep off bikes that are parked in an area that blocks access to people who walk east-west or west-east.
But it appears to be a slip-shod job. The hand-rail is shaky and topples often; this can be a danger to seniors who hold on to it to walk across. Recently, one woman lost her balance while holding on to the rail.
Also, indiscriminate parking by bikes and cars at this end of Kutchery Road poses problems for pedestrians who have to use this junction almost every day.
Chennai Metro needs to make arrangements for proper parking – and away from the areas that pedestrians need and use through the day. And ensure the walk ways for pedestrians are clear.
