A 70 year old private security guard Periyathambi suffered grievous injuries while walking to his duty spot when an SUV ran over his foot on Oct.22 in Abiramapuram, opposite Ambika Appalam store.
He was admitted at the Royapettah Govt Hospital and has been discharged from hospital after 10 days.
The senior citizen’s son Murugesan who lodged a complaint with the Mylapore Traffic Police says that his father’s two toes have had to be amputated. This means he cannot walk steadily without help, ending his livelihood as a security guard.
Periyathambi is now going back to his native place in Thanjavur.
“What is most tragic about this accident is that this 70 year old guard had a deformity in his right leg which made him limp while walking. That did not deter him from fending for himself. He is now left with a permanent damage on both his lower limbs” says Sanjay Pinto, advocate and a resident of the area who is doing his bit to assist Periyathambi.
Sanjay Pinto says his endeavour is to get Periyathambi relief, either through a settlement with the vehicle owner or through a motor accident claim petition.
