Traffic was thin on the main roads of Mylapore zone on Deepavali eve; Saturday night. Many families had packed off to their native places on Friday and the buzz was low all around.
But at places like the hawker stalls and on the Mada Streets, people were at their last-minute festival shopping.
Daily wagers and others were crowding the hawker stalls for clothes and footwear near the Mundagakanni Amman Temple MRTS station, to grab some bargains even as rain threatened to fall.
Large apartment blocks and gated communities had lit up their walls and gardens with tiny illuminations. As did some large stores; the Fab India store at the Hotel Samco junction in Alwarpet stood out. As did some posh apartments in the Alwarpet – Abiramapuram – R A Puram zone.
Every year, for DeepavaliĀ people at Sriranga Apartments on Dr Ranga Road also illuminate their blocks.
Restaurants were full on the weekend evening – people unwinding at these spots on Cathedral Road, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, C P Ramaswamy Road and elsewhere.
